Mauritius: System of Education

The system of Education in Mauritius differs very much from the USA & Europe!

I mean, most students concentrate only at school and if ever they need additional Help, they can stay after school...

But here, its quite the opposite!

From the last few years, there has been an increase in the rate of absentism in the Secondary Schools!

Why?

Most students take private tuitions after school...

Some teachers even give tuition during school hours!

Why is this so?

Education is FREE in Mauritius and hence students give a damn about school. They prefer going to Tuitions and concentrate more there as their Parents have to pay for the Tuition fee at the end of each month!

Well, we do have some teachers who are give tuitions freely to needy students and others who take high fees for less than 7hr a month..!

We've got so many Money-Minded Teachers nowadays :@:@

For example, I'm a Science student and my Physics tuition, including Practicals and Theory classes sum up to Rs. 600! Chemistry tuitions are Rs. 800 cos we've got to use lutsa Solutions...

But can you guess how much an English(Main) Tuition is?

...

Rs. 1200 <==

WTF?  O.o

I mean, for some people it might be a small amount but for the majority its a BIG amount because not everyone in Mauritius is borned with a silver spoon in their mouth (Politics...)

Not all English teachers take up dat Fees but only some few of 'em..!

Is English more complicated that Science? :S

Absolutely Not!!

A science student can talk fluently in English, Write an error-less Essay, but can a student who does English Main, integrates, differentiates Exponential or Trigonometrical Functions? Use Substitution or By Parts to integrate these funtions? Or Sketch graphs of these functions?

I'm sure if they saw my Physics copybook it would be like they are seeing a new language ¬¬''

To conclude, major changes are required to achieve Quality Education amidst students...

Joke: The Pastor Ass

The Pastor entered his donkey in a race and it won.

The Pastor was so pleased with the donkey that he entered it in the race again and it won again.

The local paper read:
PASTOR'S ASS OUT FRONT.

The Bishop was so upset with this kind of publicity that he ordered the Pastor not to enter the donkey in another race.

The next day the local paper headline read:
BISHOP SCRATCHES PASTOR'S ASS.

This was too much for the Bishop so he ordered the Pastor to get rid of the donkey.
The Pastor decided to give it to a Nun in a nearby convent.

The local paper, hearing of the news, posted the following headline the next day:
NUN HAS BEST ASS IN TOWN.

The Bishop fainted.
He informed the Nun that she would have to get rid of the donkey so she sold it to a farmer for $10.

The next day the paper read:
NUN SELLS ASS FOR $10.

This was too much for the Bishop so he ordered the Nun to buy back the donkey and lead it to the plains where it could run wild.

The next day the headlines read:
NUN ANNOUNCES HER ASS IS WILD AND FREE.

The Bishop was buried the next day.

Victims of Arizona Shooting

Source: aol.com/

U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was the target of a gunman's rampage on Saturday morning at a political event in Tucson, Ariz., where six people were killed. Giffords, pictured here on Capitol Hill on Wednesday, was shot in the head during the attack. Doctors say the congresswoman is in critical condition, but they are "cautiously optimistic" about her recovery.

U.S. District Judge John Roll died in the shooting. The gunman, identified as Jared Loughner, 22, opened fire at a "Congress on Your Corner" event being held outside a Safeway grocery store. Giffords' aide, Gabe Zimmerman, a 9-year-old girl and three Arizona retirees also died in the attack. House Speaker John Boehner called the shooting an "inhuman act."

Zimmerman, 30, was Giffords' community outreach director and organized Saturday's event. "He was an amazing person. His goal in life was to do nothing but help people. There's not enough words to describe him," Giffords' press secretary, C.J. Karamargin, told the Sierra Vista Herald/Review.

Christina Taylor Green was invited to the congresswoman's event by a neighbor, who thought the newly elected student council member would enjoy it. The 9-year-old was born on Sept. 11, 2001. "She came in on a tragedy and now she's gone out on a tragedy, but the nine years in between were very special," her father told CNN.

Dorwan Stoddard was fatally shot in the head during the event. Reports say the 76-year-old was trying to protect his wife, Mavanell, who was shot in the legs and is expected to recover, when he was hit.

Phyllis Schneck, 79, was a New Jersey grandmother who retired to Arizona, according to The Trentonian. Though Schneck was a lifelong conservative, she voted for Rep. Giffords, a Democrat, and was attending Saturday's event to meet the congresswoman.

Dorothy Morris, 76, also died in Saturday's shooting rampage. Morris was attending the event with her husband, George, who remains in critical condition, according to the Reno Gazette-Journal.

Happy Endin' 2010

At 3 years old, Christian was like any other boy his age. He loved to play and laugh with his family. Suddenly, Christian began to lose his appetite and had fevers almost every day. After several exams, an ultrasound revealed devastating news: Christian had a mass in his kidney. He was found to be suffering from neuroblastoma, one of the most aggressive types of childhood cancers.

“You know that cancer exists, and that we are all at risk; but you never imagine that it will touch your life,” said his mother.

Christian underwent a bone marrow transplant and chemotherapy in his native Puerto Rico. Sadly, after two years of scans indicating no evidence of disease, his cancer returned.

This time, the cancer had spread to the bones in his hips and legs, causing him a great deal of pain. In search of a possible cure for Christian, one of his doctors contacted St. Jude.

In March 2010, Christian arrived at St. Jude, where doctors were studying novel treatments for neuroblastoma. Christian was enrolled on two protocols (treatment plans). The first used a new chemotherapy drug to relieve his tumor burden. Christian responded well to the drug and proceeded to an immunotherapy protocol.

Immunotherapy is designed to produce immunity to a disease or to enhance resistance by the immune system. The basis of Christian’s treatment is a neuroblastoma antibody that is manufactured at the St. Jude Children’s GMP, LLC facility. St. Jude is the only pediatric research center with an on-site Good Manufacturing Practices facility to research and then produce highly specialized medicines and vaccines that pharmaceutical companies do not produce.

Currently, Christian is at St. Jude fighting for his life.

I just read this story online & I wanted to share it on my blog cos by now, everybody mjst be preparin' emselves for welcomin' the New Year: Shopping, Dinner, BBQ at the Beach, Fire Craks, but we do have many many people, all around the world, who do not even have anything to eat or do not even know that 2010 has come to an end!

Poverty exists throughout the Planet & we might be rich today & lose everythin' the followin' day (Market has crashes, etc...)... So consider yourself really fortunate compared to the others & well, as we all know, we do have an ever-endin' list of wants but sometimes do think for others & as the great Albert Einstein once said: "Only a life lived for others is worth living."

Here is my last post for this Year & I wish everyone, all around the World, a Happy New Year 2011... Hope this New Year will fulfish most of your wishes...x
